Milla Nestar
Archetype: Human Rigger
If you've ever seen the fine anime production "Dominion Tank Police" you
already have a vague idea of how Milla's armored division of the UCAS
military (aka The Metroplex Guard in Seattle) operates. Her triad of UCAS
versions of the Stonewall MBT (See Rigger 1) are deployed during
situations requiring firepower far beyond what a normal SWAT or military
team could provide. These situations include city strike defense (which
are launched more often than one might think from Tir), terrorist
incursions (such as the time a fairly insignificant pacific island loaded
a cargo ship with light tanks and went on a hostage raid in downtown
Seattle), corporate containment (sometimes the corps get out of hand), and
a variety of other heavy duty. The unit is also occasionally called out
for simple SWAT caliber situations that can be solved more quickly simply
by blowing holes through a stronghold than through classic negotiations.
The amount of collateral damage Milla's unit is permitted to cause is
based on two factors: A) The quality of the neighborhood the tanks roll
into, B) Milla's mood on that particular day. While highly skilled and
severely logical, Milla gets a bit jumpy if her unit hasn't seen action in
a while. Tall, muscular and sporting red, white, and blue hair (she's
fiercely patriotic to the UCAS, particularly the embedded aspects of the
old USA), Milla spends her off hours getting into brawls at a bar that's
not more than a 30 second Aurora bolt to her tank garage.
Ford Bandora
Archetype: Human Rigger
Shortly after being discharged for going AWOL for a day from his CAS Titan
Tank squad (a unit that functioned in a similar manner to Milla's own),
Ford ran into Milla at a Denver bar. A connoisseur of foreign nation
rumor/intelligence, Milla had heard of Ford's unceremonious departure and
decided to give him a ribbing about it. Normally Ford might have taken
the verbal assault in stride, but when Milla began revealing the details
of the situation (particularly the fact that Ford went AWOL to meet his
lover only to find him shacked up with somebody else) Ford lost his cool.
What occurred next was a fight that lasted over three hours and carried
itself from the bar and into the streets, several restaurants and a few
other public areas, finally ending when they scored a double knockout
right back at the bar where they had started. When they regained
consciousness, Milla invited Ford to join her unit (even though this
violated every UCAS recruiting and chain of command rule in the
book). Ford accepted, and then threw a sucker punch that knocked Milla
out cold.
Of a light build that contradicts just how strong he actually is, Ford is
a maneuvering master in his MBT.
Drodge Ruiski
Archetype: Ork Rigger
Referred to as "The Communist" by Milla, this buff troll of Russian origin
maintains a defensively rough exterior and gruff manner designed to scare
anyone who wishes to make fun of his thick accent. Once the prize soldier
of an elite Russian tank detachment, Drodge was framed by his commander
for a phenomenal act of incompetence (specifically, ordering a column of
heavies into a river). After appealing his court martial to every
available level of military court (and fending off many attacks against
his own life), Drodge grabbed a handful of military secrets and set off
for the UCAS. Recognizing his superb skills as a tank pilot, the UCAS
recruited him and placed him in Milla's unit (but not before they sent him
through a “loyalty” process that was more painful than effective).
Drodge and Milla's relations have been improving due to Drodge's apparent
efforts to integrate into UCAS culture and Milla's efforts to take him to
every UCAS historical site in the country. Still, Drodge continues to
have feelings for his homeland, feelings which Milla has an unnerving
ability to hone in on. And even as they become closer friends, Milla is
still fully willing to put a bullet in Drodge's back if he decides to
return to Russia.
