Delila Kay
Archetype: Human Freelance Lobbyist
In order to get the UCAS government to do anything that favors your
company or self-interests you need a bit more than just a loud voice. The
networking that takes place in DeeCee is mesmerizing, equivalent to having
an RTG wherein every individual node has some say in how things run, none
can function without the support of their sibling constructs, and the CPU
is left to try to sort out the mess created by its children. Or something
like that.
Anyway, the 2060 lobbyist has to understand these multitudes of pathways,
contacts, and gate keepers as well as balancing them all out so they work
to their employer’s advantage while not pissing off any of the parties
involved. Delila Kay, a relatively polite 40ish woman, has been working
the Washington circuit for nearly 20 years and has a stranglehold on the
methods needed to get stuff done. Her contact list is a mile long, her
expense account reaches into the billions, and she can plan out how to get
an employer’s interest on the congressional debate list without ruffling
the feathers of anybody along her informational chain.
The problem is, to her employer she’s worth her weight in gold, but to her
employer’s competitor she is a threat worse than Vitas. This forces Delila
to perform her functions in a hit and run manner; meeting and negotiating,
and then disappearing in a flurry of bodyguards to be driven off to her
secret residencies. This creates a relatively paranoid existence which
Delila takes in professional stride. The downside of her situation is that
if somebody wants to hire her, she is nearly impossible to find. But, on
the upside, if somebody wants to kill her (which happens quite often), she
is also difficult to locate. More than one group of runners has received a
healthy salary trying to make the former situation come to pass. More than
a few runners have also died while trying to complete the latter.
Drudge
Archetype: Dwarf Political Analyst Decker
Drudge once made a good living writing political commentaries for the
Washington Post. Unfortunately, his columns began to reveal more
information about political ties and government intrigue than DeeCee
politicos preferred. On a rainy night in August of 2055 Drudge was gunned
down outside his suburban office by an unknown group of hitmen.
Drudge survived the attack, although his injuries left him paralyzed from
the waist down and a bullet that to this day remains lodged in his skull
changed his personality from a sarcastic analyst to a bitter, vindictive
schemer. From an isolated slum apartment, Drudge continues to scan the
political scene, compiling information and posting it on forums such as
Shadowland for all to see.
But even the dirt posted on the matrix doesn’t scratch the surface of
Drudge’s knowledge of the political scene. The most sacred information he
keeps to himself, waiting for opportunities to blackmail DeeCee’s finest.
When he sees his opportunity, he mails the target his dirt, hires a
courier to deliver the information personally, or hires a group of runners
if a more dramatic delivery is called for. Drudge is very good at covering
his tracks and is not below calling in some wetworkers to clear out a
political figure who is getting too close to finding their blackmailer.
