Static
Archetype: Human Broadcast Pirate Manipulation Adept
Static failed out of about five different film schools (and was kicked out
of six others) before she finally gave up on a legitimate career in
broadcasting and turned to pirating instead. It was also at this time when
she took a liking to BTLs, LSD, and additional mind altering drugs. Then,
during a trip she’ll never forget, she suddenly discovered an innate
ability to perform the feats of a manipulation adept and saw the world of
broadcast pirating in a new light.
Static has since learned how to integrate some of her magical manipulation
know-how into astonishingly complex and sly cycling video background
patterns and movement that are able to manipulate viewers in interesting
and sometimes frightening ways. Her sole piece of cyberware is a delta
grade simsense rig that allows her to transcribe what she feels while
casting a manipulation spell, and then ‘flatten’ these emotions and images
into a format suitable for 3V or video broadcasts. She has also acquired a
variety of external cameras and goggles that she wears almost constantly,
adding to the odd appearance already produced by her muscular, tattooed
features and punkish white hair.
She sells her recordings to local and international pirates, customizing
their content to fit her employers’ needs. While she can still only
introduce only basic emotional stimulations, some of her recordings are
getting so good that she can induce rage and suicides in less willful
people. [For gaming purposes you might want to handle these playbacks in
the same way you’d handle a relatively tame mental manipulation spell.]
She operates solely out of a well equipped Rolls Royce Prairie Cat and has
a variety of other vehicles stashed around the continent. It is extremely
rare that she ever broadcasts anything from her actual vehicle, although
it is more than equipped to do so.
Sly Dick
Archetype: Human Broadcast Pirate
Sly Dick is a visual as well as mental oddity. His dress and mannerisms
are reflective of the 1970s disco era, complete with polyester leisure
suits and a ‘what’s your sign?’ oriented array of pickup lines. Nobody can
really tell if this is simply an act, of if Dick is actually as delusional
as he seems. Regardless of his eccentricities, he is generally a hit at
night clubs, allowing him to mix, mingle, and, more importantly, gain
access to secured areas of the club that might contain transmission
cables.
Clubs tend to pipe in a lot of music and video transmissions and their
chaotic environment is perfect for planting remote transmission boxes. In
addition to being a flake, Dick is quite skilled at communication
electronics, having developed a short haul transmitter about the size of a
small Vienna sausage called ‘the clamp’ that simply snaps around a cable
and makes contact with internal wiring via a variety of needle like
probes. Once Dick finds a cable it only takes a second or two to apply
this nondescript tap.
While the transmission only reaches a half kilometer or so, the distance
is usually sufficient to reach another relay transmitter installed by
someone else on a larger cable. These series of links are extremely
difficult to trace and are designed to indicate the chosen club as the
signal’s originator. It’s never a pretty sight to see a communications
‘swat’ team attempt to barge into a hot urban club on a Friday night.
Dick is slow, but quite skilled with heavy pistols and possesses a variety
of layered bio and cyber armor that allow him to take more than a few
bullets before going down.
